Banned Book Weeks Giveaway

Banned Books Week: 2011
Banned Books are an issue that really hits home for me, simply because I love books. I may not love every book, every genre, or every author, but I have a respect for each and every one
Think about it this way: Imagine a person of a certain race was banned. How would you feel then? Sorry? Apologetic? Would you agree? Banning a book is the exact same thing on a very basic level. You are not allowing a person to experience all life has to offer, whether it be a person, a place, or a book, it doesn't matter.
For Parents: I understand that you want to shield your children from all hate and evil things in the world - trust me, I get it. But as children we will have to expierence it sometime and get our information from someone, so wouldn't you rather it be from a novel than a peer who may not know the whole story? With a novel it may spark questions with your child and will allow you to have a discussion that you didn't know how to approach so you just avoided it.
Librarians, Parents, Teachers, and other adults who have the power to ban novels: Think about this for a second. What is you purpose to children? To teach them? Expose them to the world? By banning a novel you aren't doing your job. So next time you think about banning a book, consider the kids who need that book to make them feel not so alone, more confident about themselves, or realize they need help. That realization may not always come from you, unfortunately.
In honor of Banned Books Week I have created a giveaway that will be open during Banned Books Week Hop(September 24th - October 1st) for Maureen Johnson's The Bermudez Triangle. Maureen Johnson is coming to Austin Teen Book Festival, which happens to be the last day of the hop, so I felt it seemed fit. Please fill out the following form if you would like to be considered and check out Review Policy page for more information on how I run giveaways.

Please check out I Am A Reader, Not A Writer for more information about this Hop and the details so you can participate next year!
